How-to-Runway Details-Marni-Paired Brocade

The fabrics on this dress are delicious!

Mixing a couple of jacquard or brocade fabrics as shown on this dress (from the Marni Ready-to-Wear Spring 2015 runway) doesn’t have to be hard.

TRY IT:

The pieces that make up this dress are irregular, but you can use any dress sewing pattern and get a similar effect. What works about this combo is that two colors – black and white – repeat in both fabrics.

White is foreground, white is background, black is detail outline of the flowers, and it is also used as piping to accent the connections between the fabrics, including where two of pieces of the same fabric connect.

Use the image as a map for how to select your fabrics. In this dress, there is more white than any other color.
