With a Small Investment, a Talented Lady Stitches Her Way into Business

Women and Power: Rwandese Lady Sews to Success

They say business opportunities are like buses when one leaves, there is always another coming. And for 30 year old Claudine Uwase Githue, hers came in form of stitching. After years of unsuccessfully looking for a job, the lady from the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda, sought to tailor-make her life through something that would suit her fashion. So, she took up her favorite hobby of stitching where she has revolutionised the craft of making vitenges. Here’s NTV’s Lizz Ntonjira with this intriguing story on her feature segment, Women and Power.

Claudine Uwase Githue, Rwandese sewist

With a good skill set and minimum investment, it is possible to start a home based business, just as this lovely and talented lady has done.  She eventually put 5,000 Kenyan Shillings (about 60 US Dollars) forward to help open her tailoring shop – the growing business was overwhelming her home life.  She is so happy sewing!
